Speakers’ profiles

Mr Justice Henshaw qualified as a solicitor in 1984 and practised in commercial litigation at Linklaters. He was called to the Bar in 2000 and joined Brick Court Chambers, where he specialised in commercial and litigation and arbitration, public and EU law. He was appointed a QC (now KC) in 2013 and as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2017. He became one of the judges of the London Commercial Court in 2017. He is authorised to sit in cases in the Commercial and Administrative Courts, and also sits in criminal cases in the Crown Court and Court of Appeal (Criminal Division). Since 2024 he is the Judge in Charge of the London Commercial Court.
Professor Xandra Kramer is a Professor of Private Law at Erasmus School of Law (Rotterdam) and Professor of Private International Law at Utrecht University. She has published numerous articles and books on civil justice and private international law. She is an elected member of the Institute de Droit International and serves on the Council of the European Law Institute.
Professor Gerard Meijer is a Professor of Arbitration and Dispute Resolution at Erasmus School of Law. He regularly writes about arbitration for leading publications and contributes commentaries. Gerard is also a partner at Linklaters LLP and a board member of the International Federation for Investment Law & Arbitration, a member of the Advisory Board of the Dutch Arbitration Institute, and a member of the Netherlands ICC Arbitration Commission.
Judge Duco Oranje joined the Amsterdam Bar in 1985, working in an international law practice at Clifford Chance including arbitration, insolvency, corporate law and banking law. He acted as an arbitrator in international ICC arbitrations. He has served as a judge in the Amsterdam Court of Appeal since 2010, focusing on commercial matters, mainly corporate and banking. He is the President of the NCC Court of Appeal.
Willem Visser studied Private Law at Utrecht University (the Netherlands). Since his graduation he has been in the employ of the Dutch Judiciary, drafting judgments in complex civil cases, in particular in the area of private international law. He published several articles and gave several webinars on this area of law.
In 2019, he became the Registrar of the Netherlands Commercial Court (based in Amsterdam). In this capacity, he oversees the general operations of the court and drafts judgments in English. During his 20+ years of serving the Judiciary he was appointed member of several national judicial expert groups, including the Expert Group on European Private Law which he continues to serve.
