Pilot court-proceedings in English extended

 

Rotterdam, 03 juli 2017

As of January 1st 2016 the Rotterdam District Court allows certain types of civil cases to be conducted in the English language. The cases that qualify for this pilot project are those involving maritime law, transport law and international sale of goods.

The Maritime Chamber of the Rotterdam District Court is specialized in these types of court procedures. Often these cases involve international parties and during the pilot they can jointly request the Rotterdam District Court for a procedure in English instead of Dutch.

The District-Court of Rotterdam decided to extend the pilot project. By doing so the Maritime Chamber hopes to fulfil a need that exists in international trade. The applicable procedure rules in Dutch and in English can be found here

The Maritime Chamber also publishes English summaries of important court-rulings. In This way lawyers outside the Dutch-language area can be informed of developments in Rotterdam.
