Suspension Shildon investigation 21 April 2026

The hearing of the criminal case against a 57-year-old man in the Shildon investigation has been suspended for the remainder of the day due to a technical malfunction in the Arabic translation of the livestream. The case will resume tomorrow at 9:00 AM, on April 22 at 900 AM, with the prosecution's closing arguments.

The case revolves around a suspect who allegedly served as an interrogator for the National Defence Force (NDF), a Syrian pro-regime militia, in Syria in 2013 and 2014. In that capacity, he is accused of committing torture and ill-treatment, sexual violence, and rape as crimes against humanity. The case schedule already accounted for an extra day for potential delay. The court will make use of this day, which is on May 12, 2026.
